The Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith was the first attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to feature a high-speed launch and multiple complete inversions. Guests take a twisting, turning journey through a Hollywood night in a stretch limousine equipped with the driving beat of rock ‘n’ roll music performed by Aerosmith. The Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster was dedicated on July 29, 1999, and opened to the public the following day. A second Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith opened at Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris, France on March 16, 2002.
Disney-MGM Studios originally announced Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in April 1998. The ride was set to open in 1999 in order to celebrate the theme park’s tenth anniversary. The park hired Vekoma to build the indoor roller coaster, and construction began in February 1998.
The attraction held its grand opening on July 29th with an invitation-only party featuring Aerosmith as the guests of honor. After a special performance by painter Denny Dent, attendees received the chance to ride the roller coaster with one of the Aerosmith band members.
In each train, there are 120 speakers, with five surrounding each rider, consisting of two mid-range speakers, two tweeters, and a subwoofer under the seat.
