Mattel Opens Their Toy Vaults for The Mattel Archive

On October 14, 2025, Mattel and publisher Rizzoli Books release The Mattel Archive, a stunning and definitive illustrated history capturing eight decades of imagination and innovation from Mattel. The hardcover book features full-page reproductions of original Mattel print catalogs, showing the shifting typography and visual style through the decades.

The Mattel Archive also chronicles Mattel’s transformation from its founding in 1945 inside a California home’s garage, to its present-day status as a global leader in toy manufacturing. The book spotlights Mattel’s iconic franchises Barbie, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Masters of the Universe, American Girl, Fisher-Price, Thomas & Friends, UNO, and more, all brought to life through rare archival images.
