Some television shows never get the chance to connect with their intended audience. The 1970s-set crime thriller Duster may have been one of those series. Duster follows Jim Ellis (Josh Holloway), a getaway driver for a notorious Phoenix-based crime syndicate, who is targeted by Nina Hayes (Rachel Hilson), a young FBI agent straight out of Quantico. Hayes has been assigned to take down the syndicate, which is allegedly run by Ezra Saxton (Keith David).
What follows is a long, dusty ride through what criminality and federal law enforcement was like in the American Northwest of the 1970’s. Unfortunately, Duster was cancelled just a few days after the final episode of season one began streaming on MAX in July of 2025. But the short-lived series leaves behind a well-crafted window into what life was like in that era for people forced to live outside the mainstream – and the lengths that they went to in order to find their own version of the American dream.
Created by J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan, Duster also stars Nina Hayes, Asivak Koostachin, Sydney Elisabeth, Benjamin Charles Watson, Camille Guaty, Adriana Aluna Martinez, Greg Grunberg, Evan Jones, Sofia Vassilieva, Jonathan Dixon, Dan Tracy, Corbin Bernsen, Reavis Dorsey, Kevin Chamberlin, Matt Lauria, Gail O’Grady, Silver Rae Fox and Rick A. Ortega Jr.
