Located on Hollywood Blvd. in the heart of Los Angeles, the Pussycat Theatre originally opened in 1940 as the News-View Newsreel Theater. In 1949 it was renamed Hollywood Newsreel Theatre and went on to have multiple names before becoming the Pussycat Theatre in December 1974, but it had already been screening double feature pornographic films prior to the renaming. The iconic Linda Lovelace adult film Deep Throat was the theater’s biggest hit, running for ten years.
In this 1978 photo, Deep Throat was paired with another retro pornography classic, The Devil in Miss Jones, also directed by Deep Throat helmer Gerard Damiano and starring Georgina Spelvin and Harry Reems, who was also a Deep Throat performer.
