A group of eccentric competitors participate in a wild and illegal cross-country road race. However, the participants will do anything to win the race, including low-down, dirty tricks. The Dodge Sportsman was driven by Burt Reynolds & Dom DeLuise and the Ferrari 308 was driven by Sammy Davis Jr. & Dean Martin. Hal Needham, who directed the film, was a participant in the actual race, along with Brock Yates of Car and Driver Magazine. Yates and Needham entered the ambulance seen in this movie. The Cannonball Run also stars Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett, Jack Elam, Adrienne Barbeau, Terry Bradshaw, Jackie Chan, Bert Convy, Jamie Farr, Peter Fonda, George Furth, Michael Hui, Bianca Jagger and Rick Aviles.
