Bruce Lee’s first epic The Big Boss (also called Fists of Fury in some territories) is the film that skyrocketed The Dragon’s career. It premiered in Hong Kong in 1971, however the movie’s international success began in 1973.

Convinced that the original Chinese score would be a far cry from European conventions and to “Asian” for the ears of Western audiences, The Big Boss’ German film distributor hired Peter Thomas to compose an entirely new soundtrack. And thus, history was made. From that point on, with the exception of China, it was Thomas’ soundtrack that scored the film worldwide, becoming the “proper” music of The Big Boss.

This updated and revised edition includes four long lost tracks from composer Peter Thomas’ archives and one longer version of one of the film’s pivotal compositions. Both replace the 2010 edition’s bonus tracks that once were originally created for the movie but never made it onto the actual score.

A young Chinese man (Bruce Lee) who has sworn an oath of non-violence moves to Thailand in order to work with his cousins in an ice factory. He discovers the business is a front for a criminal heroin smuggling operation. When his family falls victim to the factory owner’s wrath, the man must abandon his oath to seek revenge and shut down the operation permanently. Directed by Wei Lo, The Big Boss stars Bruce Lee, Maria Yi, James Tien, Nora Miao, Kun Li, Ying-Chieh Han, Tony Liu, Shan Chin, Hua-Sze Li, Marilyn Bautista, Chih Chen, Billy Chan and Ching-Ying Lam.

Tragically, in the midst of production, Peter Thomas passed away on May 17, 2020 in Lugano, Switzerland, at the age of 94. This album is dedicated to him, as well as to the memory of Bruce Lee, who would have turned 80 on November 27, 2020.
