This beautifully designed licensed beach towel celebrates the design of the original Atari 2600, which launched in 1977. The home video game console was developed by Atari and released in September of 1977 as the Atari Video Computer System (Atari VCS). The Atari 2600 popularized microprocessor-based hardware and games stored on swappable ROM cartridges, a format first used with the Fairchild Channel F. The Atari VCS was bundled with two joystick controllers, a pair of paddle controllers, and a game cartridge — initially Combat and later Pac-Man, which became one of the most popular video games of the 1980’s.
