Featured is a limited edition marbled vinyl LP pressing of the original motion picture soundtrack for A Scanner Darkly.

In 2006, Richard Linklater’s film adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s sci-fi novel A Scanner Darkly was greeted with suspicion. No one had done justice to Dick’s work (including Bladerunner, Minority Report, Total Recall, The Adjustment Bureau). How could a story of dependence on Substance D (short for “Death”) be created with multi-million dollar stars in the frame? Linklater used rotoscoping, an effect that falls somewhere between Kiki Picasso’s sketches brought to life and Disney on quaaludes. The celebrities were shrouded in mystery. Keanu Reeves’ skin suit made him almost invisible at times.

This release features work by Graham Reynolds as well as two exclusive remixes, one each by Meat Beat Manifesto and DJ Spooky. Austin Composer Graham Reynolds frequently collaborates with Richard Linklater, who was nominated in multiple categories for Best Picture Academy Award for Boyhood. Graham is also a highly respected musician in Texas with his band The Golden Arm Trio.

Directed by Richard Linklater, A Scanner Darkly stars Rory Cochrane, Robert Downey Jr., Mitch Baker, Keanu Reeves, Sean Allen, Cliff Haby, Steven Chester Prince, Winona Ryder, Natasha Janina Valdez, Mark Turner and Woody Harrelson.
