At least a VFX artist named Matthew Anthony, who runs a Youtube Channel called Stryder HD, thinks so. In fact, he’s created a trailer that imagines just that: Clint Eastwood as Wolverine and Charles Bronson as Sabretooth, along with Diana Ross as Storm, Yul Brynner as Professor X, Jeff Bridges as Cyclops, Farrah Fawcett as Jean Grey, Christopher Lee as Magneto, Arnold Schwarzenegger as Colossus (’80s), Dustin Hoffman as Beast, Scott Baio as Ice Man, Jodie Foster as Kitty Pryde, Kurt Russell as Gambit (’80s), Faye Dunaway as Mystique, Gene Wilder as Toad, Mark Hamill as Pyro, Margot Kidder as Rogue, Jane Seymour as Psylocke, Richard Roundtree as Bishop, Tim Curry as Nightcrawler, Lou Ferrigno as Juggernaut and Henry Fonda as Mr. Sinister.
If you think about it, Stryder HD’s videos aren’t really parodies. If big studio movies like X-Men and The Avengers were produced during the 1970’s, they would have starred the biggest celebrities of that era. I guess the vision would have been an issue since visual effects were practical back then. Additionally, when sci-fi or fantasy-themed movies were produced back then, the budgets of today weren’t attached. Big budgets were reserved for disaster movies, for the most part. But it’s nice to see what these screen icons might have looked like as comic book characters.
