A young man named Jim Halsey is transporting this Cadillac Seville to another state, picks up and narrowly escapes the clutches of a murderous hitchhiker named John Ryder. Halsey is then stalked along the highway by the cunning and relentless hitcher, who turns out to be a maniacal serial killer who eventually frames Halsey for a string of brutal murders. Chased by Police and shadowed by the killer, Halsey’s only help comes from a truck stop waitress. Directed by Robert Harmon from a script by Eric Red, The Hitcher stars Rutger Hauer, C. Thomas Howell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jeffrey DeMunn, John M. Jackson, Billy Green Bush, Jack Thibeau, Armin Shimerman, Gene Davis, Jon Van Ness, Henry Darrow, Tony Epper and Tom Spratley.
